Explanation for Why so many berry varieties

One of my friends asked me why I am planting so many similar varieties of berries. The inquisitor understood the different maturation times and continuous production, but didn’t understand why I would focus on currants and blueberries and blackberries and raspberries and all the varieties of each.

Simply: nutrition.

My farm is a reflection of my ideal homestead and if I produce more than I need, the excess will be sold for income. Different colors in produce are created by the different nutrients that they contain. By nutrients I mean broadly to include every micronutrient our bodies use: vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, polyphenols, flavonoids, enzymes etc.

This article explains it best, so keep healthy and eat a rainbow assortment of unprocessed foods!
